Major fire in Amsterdam apartment complex seems set

The large fire that raged early Saturday morning in an apartment complex in the center of Amsterdam was “very likely” ignited. The police reported this on Sunday.

The emergency services were warned around 6 a.m. that there had been an explosion in a home of the apartment complex at the Zuiderkerkhof. The explosion was caused by the fire, according to police.

Due to the danger and the smoke, the complex was evacuated. No one was injured. The fire brigade was able to give the signal to the fire around 09:00. Four homes were rendered uninhabitable by the fire.

The detectives are calling on residents who know more about the fire to come forward.
