The municipality of Moerdijk closed a business premises on Nijverheidsstraat in Klundert on Friday due to the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine. On the night from Thursday to Friday, hundreds of kilos of cocaine were found in a van in Papendrecht. Police investigation led to the warehouse in Klundert.
A firearm was also discovered in the van in which the coke was found. Eight suspects were arrested. The investigation is still in progress.
Mayor Aart-Jan Moerkerke decided to close the warehouse the same day. At the end of last year he also closed a building in Standdaarbuiten. “I am once again shocked by this discovery,” he says. “It shows how persistent drug crime is, but also that our strong approach works.”
To tackle undermining crime and criminals, Moerdijk works together with, among others, the police, the Public Prosecution Service and the port companies North Sea Port and Port of Moerdijk.
