Maison Kitsuné appoints former Fenty designer Marcus Clayton as creative director

The French fashion label Maison Kitsuné officially appointed Marcus Clayton as Creative Director on Friday. The Briton took over the post after having worked as a guest designer for Maison Kitsuné for the past few years.

Clayton was most recently the design director of the Fenty label, which pop star Rihanna and the French luxury goods company LVMH had built. Prior to that, he held senior positions in the studios of well-known fashion brands such as Givenchy, Balmain, Versace and Alexander Wang as well as the post of creative director at Golden Goose.

Gildas Loaëc, CEO and co-founder of the brand, explained the hiring decision: “Maison Kitsuné has not only grown over the years, it has also grown up,” he said in a statement. “My partner Masaya Kuroki and I are very excited to welcome Marcus after having worked together for a while. He has a unique understanding of how to build a brand from the inside out and, most importantly, how we want to stay relaxed and playful while at the same time expanding and refining our core collections to reach even more people. ”

The company, which will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary next year, announced that it will continue to involve “a variety of talents for capsule collections and collaborations” even after Clayton’s appointment.
