Bottom side Mainz is under pressure. The next defeat occurred on Friday, and there are only two games left until Christmas. But with which trainer?

After the next defeat in the Bundesliga, Mainz 05’s search for a coach is entering the decisive phase. The new man could be on the training pitch at the beginning of the week.

After the 0-1 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the bottom team is working intensively to present a successor to the released Bo Henriksen as soon as possible. “We are on track to have everything wrapped up by Monday and start the last two weeks with a new coach,” said sports director Niko Bungert after the home defeat against Gladbach.

Bungert did not want to reveal who would be in charge of the team in the last two games of the year. “What’s the point of talking about things that aren’t 100 percent certain? We don’t do that when we sign players. But we had good discussions and a very good feeling,” said the 39-year-old.

Mainz’s situation is serious: with just six points from 13 games, the club is at the bottom of the table. The new coach should provide impulses quickly. “It should give the team security with clear guidelines that help us have structure and self-confidence on the pitch,” said Bungert. It is important to achieve this in a short time – “with a fresh approach and new ideas”.
