Mainz 05: Nelson Weiper makes his debut as the youngest professional in the club’s history

Eliminates fog

Mainz 05 lost 2-1 to SC Freiburg on the eighth day of the Bundesliga match and have now gone three games without a win. In order to give an impulse in the final phase, coach Bo Svensson resorted to all offensive options from the bench and replaced young striker Nelson Weiper in the 87th minute, who is now the youngest professional in the club’s history.

At the age of 17 years, six months and 14 days, Weiper replaces Paul Nebel, who was about half a year older in September 2020. The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Karlsruher SC. So far, Weiper has attracted attention in the Mainz U19s. After nine goals in five games in 2021/22, the U18 international has five goals in three games this year.
