In the case of a Marmoush finish

Jonathan Burkardt (24) is still one goal away from equaling his best goal tally from the 2021/22 season – back then he was successful eleven times. The attacker from 1. FSV Mainz 05, who made his debut for the German national team in October, is one of the main reasons why things are currently going so well for Rheinhessen. But it could be the last season in the Mainz jersey for Burkardt, because with his good performances he has apparently played his way into the focus of Eintracht Frankfurt.

A departure of Bundesliga top scorer Omar Marmoush is becoming increasingly likely, as the Egyptian enjoys a high reputation, especially in the Premier League. In the event of Marmoush’s move, those responsible should, according to information from “Sport Bild”, have a list of six players, which also includes Burkardt.
With ten goals and two assists in 14 appearances, Burkardt has the fourth-most scorers in the Bundesliga. Only Marmoush, Harry Kane and Tim Kleindienst are in front of the attacker, who is one of the most accurate Germans in 2024/25. Mainz is in seventh place in the table after 14 matchdays and has won four of its last five Bundesliga games.
At the age of 18, Burkardt made his debut as the fifth youngest Mainz player in Bundesliga history. He became an important part of the first team early on, but injuries kept throwing him back. After a knee operation in December 2022, the Zero Fives had to do without the offensive player for almost a year. He only celebrated his comeback at the end of November 2023 and played a key role in Mainz being able to stay in the league after a weak start to the season. He will be out again for the next few weeks due to a muscle injury.
With a market value of 15 million euros, Burkardt, who is tied until 2027, is the most valuable professional in Bo Henriksen’s squad; in the Bundesliga update on December 20th, his market value will climb significantly. If the 24-year-old leaves Mainz in the summer, it could be one of the most expensive sales in the club’s history. In first place is Brajan Gruda, for whom Brighton paid 31.5 million euros in the summer.
