The 1st FSV Mainz 05 continues to hope that the international Jonathan Burkardt (24) and Nadiem Amiri (28) will remain at the Rheinhessen beyond summer. “I can imagine that European Cup games with Mainz 05 would be a motivation for Jonny,” said sports director Niko Bungert the newspapers of the “VRM” group about the Bundesliga, which is third best with 15 goals.

The 24-year-old, like midfielder Amiri, stood in the 2-1 win in Italy in the Nations League in the starting eleven of the German national team. Burkardt’s contract in Mainz runs until 2027, which of Amiri until 2028. Both professionals are under discussion at other clubs, while the Mainz as the third in the table have good chances of participating in the European Cup and could thus convince the service providers of staying. Burkardt was most recently traded at Bayer Leverkusen, Amiri at RB Leipzig.

“At the end of the day there are two scenarios for us, both of which would not be too negative. One thing: Jonny stays with us and at best plays European with us because he is in the mood for it, that would be a fantastic scenario,” said Bungert. “The other: As with Brajan Gruda, we have the hat on negotiations with clubs. The scenario that he is with us is of course much better.”

Gruda switched to Brighton & Hove Albion to the League premiere last year for 31.5 million euros in a transfer fee and thus became a record exit in club history. The market value of Eigenwächs Burkardt is currently being estimated at 25 million euros, but will increase in the update on March 27.

Amiri is currently located at 11 million euros, but the tendency also goes up. “Nadiem feels extremely what he has in the club, he enjoys the incredibly great appreciation. I am very positive and optimistic that we offer him a good overall package – together with his family environment in Ludwigshafen and in a sporty attractive situation,” said Bungert. Amiri was hired in January 2024 for a million euros from Leverkusen.
