1. FSV Mainz 05 will have to do without their top striker Jonathan Burkardt for the time being. The 24-year-old suffered a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh during Saturday’s 2-1 win against FC Bayern, in which he had to be substituted after just 15 minutes. The Rheinhessen put the downtime at several weeks.
Burkardt has scored ten goals in the Bundesliga so far this season, which puts him third in the top scorers list. With a market value of 15 million euros, he is also the most valuable player in coach Bo Henriksen’s squad. Eintracht Frankfurt awaits Mainz in the last game of the year away from home before they continue against VfL Bochum on January 11th. Three days later, the Zero Fives travel to champions Bayer Leverkusen.
