Mail order company Otto increases annual sales by 13 percent

The Hamburg mail order company Otto was also able to benefit from the ongoing online boom in the 2021/22 financial year. This is the result of current results presented by the e-commerce specialist belonging to the Otto Group on Tuesday.

According to this, the retailer achieved sales of around 5.12 billion euros in the financial year that ended in February. This corresponded to an increase of 13 percent compared to the previous year. The number of active customers also grew significantly: after 9.9 million in 2020/21, it was now 11.5 million.

The company also made great progress in expanding its marketplace model launched in 2020. The number of external providers on Otto’s online platform increased from 1,000 to 3,500 year-on-year. The gross merchandise value (GMV), which takes into account the sales generated by the partner companies on the platform, grew by 24 percent compared to the previous year to around 6.97 billion euros.

Marc Opelt, Chairman of the Otto Divisional Board, was satisfied with the upward trend: “We are not only pleased about our continued success as a dealer and platform operator, but also about being a welcome partner for more and more dealers and brands for the development of the own online business,” he said in a statement. “This encouragement underscores our role in the market as a platform with fair conditions and a clear stance.”
