Mahdi temporarily bans CD&V party in Wielsbeke: “Deeply disappointed”
According to CD&V National, both the majority party and Team8710 do not comply with certain party statutes.
Unjustified, says mayor Jan Stevens. “I am disappointed in that decision. We have done everything we can to keep Wielsbeke with the other four CD&V as quickly as possible. The voters have chosen us, we must continue to spread that message,” he says.
On appeal
According to him, Team8710 is an independent party and the local Christian Democrats should not be punished for this. If no party is allowed to use ‘CD&V’ as a name, this would mean that the mayor cannot go to the electorate as CD&V Wielsbeke in 2024. “I won’t let that happen,” he said.
He appeals against the decision and wants to go to the electorate next year with CD&V Wielsbeke.
