The magpie has been declared bird of the year 2025. This is reported by Bird Protection Flanders. In this twentieth edition of the election, the magpie defeated the black crow, the rook and the jackdaw. Bird Protection Flanders selected the less popular corvids “to enhance their less-than-stellar image”.
