Viktoria Aschaffenburg’s sports director has to act at short notice because a top performer is unavailable. The replacement is a player with a big name – and an unusual contract.
Viktoria Aschaffenburg reacted to the loss of regular goalkeeper Max Grün – and made an unusual personnel decision. Green is out for the time being due to a torn muscle fiber. Eric Verstappen is now stepping in at short notice. However, the Dutchman only receives a contract for two games.
Sports director Felix Magath said in a club statement: “I am glad that we were able to sign such a good goalkeeper for the next two important games at short notice.” Magath knows Verstappen from their time together at the Würzburger Kickers, for whom he worked from January 2020 to March 2021.
Aschaffenburg’s head coach Daniel Soldevilla added: “After Max Grün’s injury and in view of the fact that we have to play two extremely important games before the winter break, we have decided to take this step.” Verstappen is an experienced goalkeeper and “knows the Bavarian Regional League, so we hope he can direct our young defense well.”
Verstappen was recently without a club and was previously under contract with the second team at TSG Hoffenheim.
