Newcastle United paid a sum for Nick Woltemade to which VfB Stuttgart could not say no. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge found this idiotic-and now gets a reaction.

The English international Anthony Gordon criticized Karl-Heinz Rummenigge for his statements regarding the transfer for Nick Woltemade. At Rummenigge, the 95 million euros, on which Newcastle United and Stuttgart including bonuses had been agreed, had caused shake of the head. “I can only congratulate them in Stuttgart that they have now found one – I now say in quotation marks – idiots who paid so much money. Because we would not have done that in Munich,” he said on Bavarian Radio.

Newcastles Anthony Gordon now reacted to this. “I don’t know why you should comment on a player who is not in his club. It is a bit stupid to be honest, especially if the player really experiences a good start,” said the offensive man after the Champions League game against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. With a view of Woltemades hit rate, he added: “If he had started really badly, you could say something like that, but he scored three goals in five games, so it was a somewhat strange comment.”

Woltemade had been hired to Liverpool FC after Alexander Isak’s change. Gordon expressly praised the teammate: “I honestly found Nick great how he kept the ball under constant pressure. His game structure, his interaction – it is a pleasure to play with him.”
