Maastricht nightclub throws open doors: ‘It is necessary’ | 1Limburg

Nightclub Complex Maastricht wants to know where they stand after being closed for almost two years. That is why the entertainment venue will open its doors next Saturday in protest.

That is what co-owner Lucas de Beaumont of Complex Maastricht tells on L1 Radio on Thursday. According to him, the brewery needs to be revived quickly.

Sector wants perspective
“We are going to protest just like restaurants have. We were promised to give perspective last press conference, but that is not there yet,” says De Beaumont.

‘Financially no longer feasible’
The action was launched nationwide by protest group ‘De Nacht op’. Nightclubs have been closed since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, except for a short relaxation in the summer last year. The sector wants to wake up the cabinet with this. “If this is the way to get to the table with the ministers, then that’s how we will do it,” says De Beaumont.

The Netherlands is now increasingly moving away from the lock. For example, the catering industry can open until 22:00, but with different conditions. But that time is not workable at all for nightclubs. “We need to open. This is no longer financially feasible,” says the co-owner.

‘It’s all safe’
A meeting is scheduled for Monday between the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the sector. “If it really isn’t allowed, we won’t do it. We follow the rules, but you notice that there is enough support among youth and adults. It’s all safe,” said De Beaumont.

Incidentally, not all clubs and discotheques in Limburg participate in the promotion. There are also owners who are waiting to see what the cabinet will decide.

Unmute Us protests
Last September, the night catering and events sector protested against the closures during the Unmute Us marches. In Maastricht, for example, several thousand people joined in to draw attention to the sectors.
