MARATHON SKATING – Maaike Verweij from Veenhuizen took second place today in the sixth marathon of the season. On the heavy ice of De Uithof in The Hague, she only had to tolerate Kim Talsma and thus gained valuable points in the rankings of the Top Division Women, according to the Daikin Marathon Cup.

Talsma’s 25 points were just enough for the victory, while Verweij took home 21 points. With this result she consolidates her position as second in the season rankings, making her one of the leaders in the battle for the marathon cup.

The silver performance in The Hague follows a series of strong results for Verweij. Earlier this week she took the podium again at De Vier van Noord-Holland: she finished third in Alkmaar, after a third place at the Amsterdam marathon. Kim Talsma once again proved to be a size too big in these competitions, while Verweij strengthened her position in the intermediate rankings with these results.
