Luuk de Jong signs with PSV for 3 years: ‘I’m one of us again’

PSV has completed the transfer of Luuk de Jong. The 31-year-old attacker signed a three-year contract with the Eindhoven team on Saturday and will join the selection of trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij after the weekend. “I am one of us again,” says De Jong in a video message in which he officially announced his return to PSV.

De Jong previously played for PSV from 2014 to 2019, during which time he won the national title three times with the club. PSV is now taking over the striker from Sevilla, which paid 15 million euros for De Jong three years ago.

“Strong negotiations with Sevilla were necessary and luckily a breakthrough arose on Friday evening,” said John de Jong, PSV director of football affairs. “Last season we also made an attempt to bring Luuk back to PSV. I am happy that we have succeeded now. Luuk brings us experience, leadership and goals and can already go to Germany on Monday to prepare for the selection .”

De Jong, who was leased by Sevilla to FC Barcelona last season, says he is happy with his return. “In all the years I played here, we went for the title. It seems logical to me that I want to do that again. The club is creating something beautiful.”

De Jong is referring to the return of Marcel Brands to the club, this time as general manager, and the arrival of head coach Van Nistelrooij. They also spoke about the goal of going for the national title next season.
