Lukkien thinks a draw in Doetinchem is a bonus point

FC Emmen coach Dick Lukkien couldn’t really be happy after the game against De Graafschap, because he was too much in the analysis mode. His team played a draw, but he saw the competitors lose and so the coach was a satisfied man.

“This is a bonus. Only we didn’t win here ourselves,” explains Lukkien. “But if you run out of points, then of course that has a positive effect.”

De Graafschap put the fire to the Drentse shins on Friday evening and so you have to be satisfied with a point afterwards, according to the trainer. According to him, there was no more, although his team in the person of Jasin-Amin Assehnoun did get the best chance of the second half: “If it had flown in, it would have been a stolen victory.”

Phenomenon

The home side took the lead in the first half. The goal of Joey Konings, which fell after fifteen minutes of play, is too large for Lukkien. The coordination and communication between his players were also below par, according to the trainer.

On the other hand, he has seen the number seven of his team become a phenomenon in recent weeks, as Rui Mendes scored his sixth goal in succession. “The quality drips off that,” according to Lukkien. “That is a very interesting player for many clubs in the Eredivisie. He has speed, technique and can finish.”

Nothing new

Keziah Veendorp could also count on praise from his trainer. “I have been working with Kez for six years to my full satisfaction and I know that he is an excellent football player. You are not telling me anything new with that.” All in all, despite the poor game of his team, the coach could live with the draw. But that will undoubtedly be due to the results in the other fields.
