The 26-year-old international suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury in his left ankle during the 1-1 draw at VfB Stuttgart last Sunday and now needs an operation.
The 18-time national player had played through in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart and only later complained about pain. Due to the long absence, the Champions League participant will certainly still be concerned about whether a new signing could make sense in view of the forthcoming program in three competitions, despite a wide range of defensive options.
The defender, who moved to Leipzig from Bochum in 2014, played 131 games for the Messestadt-based team in the Bundesliga, in which he scored ten goals.
