After the end of the two-day strike by Lufthansa pilots, flight operations began normally on Saturday, according to the company.
The company said on request that the flights would be carried out according to the flight schedule. The strike primarily affected the Frankfurt and Munich hubs.
“On the last two days of the strike, more than 50 percent of the originally planned flight program was able to be offered. For long-haul connections, the proportion was as high as 60 percent,” said a company spokesman. “LufthansaCargo flew more than 80 percent of its cargo flight program.” The regional subsidiary Lufthansa Cityline, which was only on strike on Thursday, was able to offer almost its entire flight program again on Friday, it said.
VC draws positive conclusions about the strike
The striking union Cockpit (VC) contradicted this: On the first day of the strike, almost 80 percent of the 800 flights originally planned by Lufthansa were canceled – with over 600 cancellations, more than twice as many as predicted by VC, according to a strike conclusion.
The second day of the strike at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo also developed significantly more strongly than predicted, according to the union. “Of the approximately 700 planned flights, over 550 were canceled, a loss of almost 80 percent.” VC described the strike as “overall very successful”.
No solution to the collective bargaining dispute
While the conflict at the regional subsidiary Cityline is about increasing salaries, the collective bargaining partners at Cargo and the core company are arguing about higher company pensions.
Until the end of the strike measures, there was still no negotiable offer from the employers regarding the company pension scheme for colleagues at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo or the collective remuneration agreement for colleagues at Lufthansa Cityline, VC said. “Our goal is not an escalation, but a fair solution on an equal footing. We are ready for this at any time,” said VC President Andreas Pinheiro.
