The World Cup starts in a week with the giant slalom. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen narrowly avoided a serious accident during training.

He is one of the best ski racers in the world: Lucas Pinheiro Braathen. The Norwegian-born athlete, who now competes for Brazil, is currently training in Sölden for the start of the World Cup next weekend. But he narrowly avoided an accident.

The 25-year-old shared a video recording in his story on Instagram. Braathen can be seen making his turns at top speed and driving down a slope – until suddenly a person drives into his path on the slope.

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen barely managed an evasive maneuver using his skills. He also reported on the incident in his story on Instagram. He wrote to his fans: “I am very grateful that I got through this.”

Then the successful ski racer added: “It reminds me how precious the dreams we pursue are. The Olympic dream, the season and, above all, my health and his health flashed before my eyes.”

He also showed a photo of his binding with a scratch and commented: “That’s pure metal – five centimeters further and it would have been my leg.”

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen celebrated overall victory in the Slalom World Cup in the 2022/23 season. He then ended his career after a falling out with the Norwegian association over marketing rights. However, the young athlete made his comeback in October of last year and has been racing for his mother’s birth country, Brazil, ever since. This winter he wants to win the nation’s first World Cup victory.
