Mariette and Raymond only briefly spend time together on the island, because Raymond has to go back to Amsterdam to work. Fortunately, Mariette lives in Diemen, so they quickly find each other again at home.

After two years of dating, they get married and buy their first home in Diemen. The couple, both entrepreneurs, begins a butcher shop, which they run until a year ago. Raymond and Mariette have been married for 36 years and still in love. “I am still one hundred percent happy,” says Raymond.
After the sale of their butcher shop, they settle in Heerhugowaard, where they enjoy their retirement together. They regularly travel to Texel, a place that is still in their hearts. “Our bond with the island is huge. You can feel all those stories and that nostalgia there. And of course we met there.”
