Louis Vuitton gets into the beauty segement.
For his first advance into the world of beauty, the French fashion house committed the renowned make-up artist Pat McGrath as the first creative director of cosmetics, as Louis Vuitton announced on Wednesday. In her new role, McGrath will lead the development of the new product category, which is scheduled to come onto the market in autumn.
“After more than 20 years of backstage experience with the Louis Vuitton fashion shows, it is an honor for me to take on a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton-a project that combines exceptional savoir fairly, creativity and innovation,” said Mcgrath. “The beauty world comprises so much more than just products, and what we create here will open a new dimension of luxury beauty.”
Beauty is by no means completely unknown terrain for the French fashion house. Perfum has been one of the central pillars of the house for a long time, and as mentioned in the press release, Louis Vuitton was already designing luxurious powder boxes, brushes and mirrors in the 1920s.
“La Beauté Louis Vuitton is a natural development of our business, shaped by the highest care in quality, wording and innovation,” explains Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO by Louis Vuitton. “With this new universe, we have the opportunity to accompany our customers even more in their everyday life – with meaningfulness and joy, while we continue to celebrate our creativity and our legacy.”
