Louis van Gaal: Dutch national team coach diagnosed with prostate cancer – Football

Louis van Gaal, the Dutch national soccer coach and former coach of record champions Bayern Munich, had been diagnosed with prostate cancer some time ago. The 70-year-old revealed this on Sunday (April 3, 2022) on Dutch television. However, the illness will not prevent him from looking after his team at the World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18).

Van Gaal: “Players don’t know”

The players “don’t know,” the 70-year-old told RTL, adding that he had already undergone 25 radiation treatments, mostly in the evenings during Dutch national team training camps. Last Tuesday (March 29, 2022) van Gaal was on the sidelines in Elftal’s international match against Germany in Amsterdam (1-1) despite a corona infection.

Van Gaal led the Netherlands to the World Cup finals. In group A of the preliminary round, the three-time vice world champion meets hosts Qatar as well as Senegal and Ecuador.
