LOSC Lille sign Mohamed Bayo in record fee for Clermont Foot

2019/20 still in the 3rd division

LOSC Lille step up the attack with whiz kid Mohamed Bayo. The 24-year-old comes from Ligue 1 competitor Clermont Foot 63 and has been given a contract with last year’s champions until 2027. The fee is reported to be between 13 and 14 million euros, with Bayo Adrian Grbic (2020/21 for 9 million euros to FC Lorient) as Clermont’s most expensive departure.

The Guinean international was still active on loan for USL Dunkerque in the 3rd division in 2019/20 and recommended himself with twelve goals in 24 games. On his return to Clermont-Ferrand, Bayo shot his youth club as the top scorer with 22 goals in 38 games in Ligue 1, where he also proved his prolificity with 14 goals in 32 appearances last season.

Club president Olivier Létang was delighted with the signing of Bayo, who has also been associated with Hertha BSC and English clubs. It is a “satisfaction to have brought and convinced a very sought-after player into the club, who for his part has clearly expressed his motivation and his desire to switch to the LOSC.”
