Looting reported in Mexico coastal town hit by Hurricane Otis | Abroad

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has called on looters “not to take advantage of the situation.” Residents of the area speak of “total chaos”, partly because ATMs are not working and shops are “closed or robbed”.

At least 27 people died as a result of the natural disaster early on Wednesday morning. Otis made landfall near Acapulco as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 166 miles per hour.

The damage in Acapulco is estimated at billions. Otis flooded streets and tore roofs off houses and hotels. In the region around the city, roads are difficult to pass. According to the governor of Guerrero, 80 percent of hotels in Acapulco are affected.
