It was a striking adventure for the young cow who escaped from her pasture yesterday afternoon. The animal broke loose, crossed a busy 80 km/h away and ended up on the terrace of a pancake restaurant in him. Today she is back in her pasture, as if nothing has happened. “She was in a jolly mood, I think,” says owner of the Koe Mark Sluis.
“It is a young animal, so officially she will only be a real cow in a month or two. Until then she runs freely in the meadow and we keep an eye on them less than the adult cows,” says dairy farmer Sluis. “It all went fast too, it will not have taken more than fifteen minutes from the moment she crossed the road until she was back in her pasture.”
Mark has about a hundred of these young cattle in the meadow, but he had never experienced this. “I think she wanted to enjoy her younger years. And honestly, we have all done strange things in our youth. You can see on the video that she realizes that she is on unknown territory. We also see the same goat jumps when we leave them out of the meadow in the spring.”
The ditch normally keeps the cows on the pasture, but this young animal thought differently. “It is warm outside, and the water too. So she thought the ditch was less scary, I think. She ended up in a backyard through that ditch, and then gone on the road. It could all have ended worse, luckily she did not end up on the hood.”

On the terrace of the pancake house she won the cow to drive back towards the pasture. The animal probably also wanted to go back to famous soil. “They could get her through a backyard until her pasture. Then she jumped over the mesh fence.”
The animal is doing well now. “It’s Business as usual Today, we don’t pamper her extra. Of course we should not stimulate this behavior, “laughs Sluis.
