Qwhen we talk about longevitygenetics often matter less than you think: they are above all the daily habits to determine how long – and how well – we will live. The science of longevity today is increasingly clear, as highlighted by a recent article published on Forbes. We don’t need expensive solutions or futuristic technologies, but simple and constant choices capable of improving health and quality of life over time.

1. Have a primarily plant-based diet
The first rule is to focus on a diet rich in vegetables. Fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and seeds provide antioxidants and fiber that reduce inflammation and protect against chronic diseases, as demonstrated by studies on populations in the so-called “Blue Zones”, where life expectancy is among the highest in the world.

2. Move every day
Movement is also fundamental: regular cardiovascular activity and strength training help preserve muscle mass, mobility and cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of frailty as we age.

3. Protect mental health
Alongside the body, however, the mind must also be taken care of: managing stress through relaxation techniques, meditation or simply moments of daily pause helps to keep inflammation and stress hormones under control.

4. Cultivate relationships
Another often overlooked pillar of longevity is the quality of social relationships. Family ties, friendships and participation in community life are associated with lower levels of depression, fewer chronic diseases and longer life expectancy.

5. Sleep well
Likewise, sleeping well and regularly – ideally between seven and nine hours a night – allows the body to activate cellular repair processes and the brain to maintain memory, concentration and emotional balance.

The good news is that you don’t need to change everything right away: longevity is the result of small gestures repeated every day. Gradually improving nutrition, movement, sleep, relationships and stress management means building not only a longer, but above all healthier and more active life over time.
