Longest-term sponsorship relationship between Philips and PSV gets a place in Guinness book of records | Dutch football

Philips and PSV come together in the Guinness book of records. According to Philips, they have secured a spot with the longest-running sponsorship commitment in the world. Philips CEO Roy Jakobs and PSV boss Marcel Brands will receive the corresponding certificate on Friday, the company reports.

Philips founded PSV (Philips Sport Vereniging) in 1913, 110 years ago this week. Now comes recognition as ‘Longest time to sponsor a sports teamin the Guinness book of world records. The Dutch parties say they are stealing the title from the Ford Motor Company and the Australian Geelong Football Club (98 years of cooperation).

,,Philips is of course at the basis of the past, present and future of our club”, says Marcel Brands, general manager at PSV. ,,Although the interpretation of the sponsorship has changed over the years, we are still happy with the commitment of Philips. We continue to innovate together and work together in social initiatives, in which we involve the entire region.”

On the occasion of the mention in the famous book, a video was made with the late Frits Philips in the leading role. The then so popular ‘Mister Frits’ supposedly steps from the pedestal under his monument, walks into Eindhoven and finds to his satisfaction that his company and the football club “still work together”.
