Utrecht Sas was abducted on 28 August 2021 at the age of 49 during a robbery on his home in Barranquilla, a city in the north of Colombia. He had emigrated to the country less than a year before, lived in the southern Lucero district, and was affectionately called ‘Guillermo’ by neighbors.
Willem Kees was determined to invest in real estate and bought buildings in different parts of the city. After a relationship with the later main suspect Kevin David Peña Ramos, he, after the relationship and he had to look for other living space, would have devised a plan to get hold of the assets of the Dutchman.
Sas had enough. He had a lot of money in bank accounts, twelve apartments and a country house. While the Dutchman was gone, his home was broken into, the OM reported.
Tied up with sheets
On the fatal day the Dutchman was lured back to his home, where the robbers had already invaded. He was tied with sheets and hours tortured. According to the Public Prosecution Service, three attackers then forced him in his car, and drove to an unknown location.
That became known during the court case in Barranquilla. Gruesome details were told about what had happened to Sas. After his family ringed the bell at the end of August 2021, a missing message was distributed by the local OM over the Dutchman, because there were great worries that something serious had happened to him when no contact could be made with him.
Investigators who went to his home after the report of family found blood traces everywhere. His blood was also found in the Sas car afterwards. His body was never found.
The judge sentenced two suspects to 44 years and 5 months in prison for the disappearance and proven death of the Dutchman. They were also convicted of heavy and qualified theft. Peña Ramos was previously sentenced to 15 years and 4 months.
The mystery surrounding the SAS case has almost been resolved, says the judiciary. The only thing left is the condemnation of a fugitive fourth suspect, and the recallive remains of the Utrechter.
