London police investigate Farah’s statements about people smuggling

London police have opened an investigation over British Olympic champion Mo Farah’s confessions that he was illegally smuggled into the UK as a child.

The 39-year-old Somali-born athlete, who won gold for Great Britain in the 5000 and 10,000 meters at the 2012 and 2016 Games, revealed in a BBC documentary last week that his real name is Hussein Abdi Kahin. He also told that he was forced to work as a domestic worker as an 8-year-old child.

“We are aware of the media reports about Mo Farah,” the police said. “No reports have been made to the police to date. Specialized agents have opened an investigation and are currently reviewing the available information.”
