Local residents ‘angry and disappointed’ after another disappointing report

Despite hundreds of millions in improvements to the Tata Steel site: in Wijk aan Zee, Beverwijk and Velsen-Noord, just as many harmful PAH substances and metals settle in coarse dust as a few years ago. Tata Steel itself regrets that the environment does not receive many of the improvements. Sanne Walvisch of Frisse Wind read the report again ‘with lead in her shoes’: “We are angry and disappointed.”

The province, which supervises Tata Steel with the Environment Agency, also responded to the report today. According to the province, “the report confirms the need to maintain the, if possible accelerated, implementation of measures at the Tata Steel site.”- She also says again entering into discussions with, among others, the RIVM and the Ministry of IenW about follow-up research.

On April 4 is a information meeting in Beverwijk about the report. RIVM will answer questions there from residents living near Tata Steel, as will the deputy of the province of North Holland and aldermen of the IJmond municipalities.
