Lizzo has presented her new fashion line YITTI, a line of shapewear suitable for all body types. In a video clip on Instagram, she shows off a crop top and matching leggings from the new collection. In an interview with “Forbes Magazine” she also emphasizes how important it is to accept your own body. To this day, she is exposed to derogatory statements about her appearance.
Lizzo takes a stand against archetypes
In addition to presenting her fashion line, Lizzo takes action against false ideals of beauty in the interview. The musician and fashion designer first had to learn to accept her body and recognize her own attractiveness: “I’ve spent my whole life trying to change my appearance or reshape my body. As if I had to inflict him with any kind of pain to fit an archetype or standard of beauty. I’ve been wearing shapewear — tight-fitting corsets and panties — for a very long time, ever since I was in fifth or sixth grade. It was really painful and I felt like it wasn’t meant to be. We shouldn’t be ashamed of our bodies, and we shouldn’t have to wear these boxes to feel beautiful.”
She was also significantly involved in the conception of the collection: “I was heavily involved in the design of each style. I see every fabric, I choose every colour, I’ve tried on every piece countless times during the design and fitting process.”
