Liveticker Raymond Smith – Mervyn King (PDC Darts World Cup 2022, round of 16)

14:56

Three 60s at own launch

First Smith manages this very important re-break and then he throws three shots in his throw-off with only 60 points and the fourth is even below 60. King answers with a 180 and faces 56 remainder, while the “Guru” still has over 200 points rumkrebst. 16 for tops is the name of the “kings” path and the first arrow is on the double. If he gets through his attack now, the score is 3: 3 and we go into the decision set.

14:53

King has trouble confirming the break

Smith has the option to re-break. The Australian stands at 79 remainder while King is not yet in the finish. So this is the chance to counter the break you just received. But his one arrow on tops misses. The “King” could slip in between again with 146. But the finish is too high for him. At Smith’s this time the first dart is in D20. This means that King needs a break again if he wants to stay in the tournament.

14:50

King is back

First the Englishman makes the connection in the sentences and then he attacks Smith’s throwing off at the beginning of the sixth sentence. The “King” has 84 points remaining and his opponent still has to delete 138 points. Over 20, T14 and D11 he wants to grab the break, but misses the double. The 138 is too much for Smith. So there are more options for King. He checks 11 points over 3 and D4.

14:47

Smith does not let himself be disturbed

Although there is little going on for the Australian in the sentence, he doesn’t show anything. He puts himself 41 points remaining in King’s throw-off, while his opponent is not yet in the finish. Then he plays 9 for D16, but hits the big 16 and his dart on the D8 ends up in the D11. King is there and checks 67 points to win the set over T17, 8 and D4.

14:44

And then the attack on the break

Smith is weakening again and King now has the triples. He is the first in the finish area in the throw-off from the “Guru”. He has 44 rest. Throws 12 for D16, hits a simple 16 and still has a dart in hand. The Englishman stops for a moment and then slams the arrow into the D8. The choirs start again.

14:42

King comes off the break well

The break was obviously good for the favorite. He starts the fifth movement with three 140 recordings in a row. King turns tops after twelve arrows and he hits double with the first throw. With a 13-darter in the throw-off, of course, his opponent hardly has a chance.

14:35

King has problems here

The Englishman is 2-0 behind in the fourth set and can’t keep up with Raymond Smith’s throw-in. The Australian has 60 left, while King still has 244. So two darts on tops to win a set. But both go wrong. It almost has to be 144 for King. Not surprisingly, however. Therefore the “Guru” closes the set with the first dart on D10. The surprise is getting closer.

14:33

King screwed up the transition

In his own throw-off, the “King” does not manage to get from 245 points to the finish area. Break point to Smith. The Australian has 104 left and gets an arrow on the D16, but it misses. King stands at 85 and has a bullseye chance. His throw ends up in the 3. Therefore, the “guru” grabs his break with the next dart on D16.

14:29

Double trouble, but no pressure at all

Smith averaged under 66 points in the last set. It has to improve now if it doesn’t want to go under here. The fourth movement starts better with two 100 recordings and then comes his second 180 afterwards. He’s in the finish while King has 339 left. In the end he wants to delete 88 points over T16 and D20. But he puts six arrows past the double. That shows how far away King was. Because the seventh dart in the D10 is enough to win the leg.

14:26

Now comes the bouncer too

The “Guru” is not running anyway and then an arrow bounces him out of the T20. So the Break is a long way off. But King also has some problems. But his opponent is just too far away. The Englishman can turn 60 without pressure, but he cannot delete it with three darts. Smith can’t make 145. So again three arrows in the hands of the “King”. The second is in the D10. That is the connection in the sentences.

14:22

Smith in a low now

This could be King’s first break. His opponent no longer creates high shots. There are some ones in it. This leaves King with 36 remainder and Smith has 298 points left to clear. But he doesn’t even get into the finish area. Instead, the “King” throws the first arrow into the double. This sentence could clearly go to the Englishman.

14:21

No pressure for the “King”

In the “King” s throw-off, Smith only hits a few triples. King can even afford to miss the doubles and still have three darts time. But then he falls out on 4 remainder with 15. That gives the “guru” an arrow on tops. But it misses. So again the chance for King and this time the third dart is in D2. And the audience sing the Mervyn King choirs again.

14:13

King needs the high finish

The Englishman has 164 points remaining, while Smith only needs 60 points. But King missed the T18. The chance to lead the set 2-0 for the outsider. He hits the easy 20 and hits the second arrow in tops. King is visibly annoyed. He’s playing below his possibilities, but his opponent is also just freezing.

14:10

King’s dart is deflected

At the transition to the finish area, King has already thrown 80 points, so only 20 are missing for a finish, but his dart is deflected into the D5. That gives Smith a chance to face 104 points. And he checks them again very coolly via T4, T20 and D16. His double quota is now a strong 71 percent.

14:07

Another 180

Mervyn King puts all his arrows in the triple 20 for the fourth time. This puts some pressure on Smith’s throw, but the Australian himself throws the 140 twice in this leg. For the “King”, 145 remaining points are too much. His opponent, on the other hand, clears 64 points with two darts over T16 and D8. So far it is really sovereign what the “guru” plays.

14:00

King with the next 180

The Englishman poses at his own accusation was a boogie number, but since he does it with a 180, it’s not that bad. He then turns 50 rest. Smith is ready to break at 101 and King awards an arrow on D16 and one on D8 this time. But the 101 is too much for the “guru”. King has three darts time again and throws them all wrong again. That’s why Smith gets the break for the set on D8.

13:57

A slow game

The game has a slow rhythm but high quality. You don’t shoot the highest scores into the board. Your averages are still around 95 points. So it’s not a big spectacle so far. This time Smith faces 36 Rest and hits with the second arrow. So far there has not been a break chance.

13:55

Everything is in order

So far, the two have played through their throw-off cleanly. King faces 88 this time. He checks with two darts over T20 and D14.

13:52

Smith is serious about throwing off

Raymond Smith seems completely unimpressed and opens his own attack with a 180. What is Mervyn King doing? He also chases after one. As a result, the “Guru” ‘s accusation wobbles. But he still comes first in the finish area. There are three arrows on the D20. The first is sitting. That is the balance.

13:50

King opens the game

The game starts at a leisurely pace. Then with the third shot, the “King” hits the first 180 on the board. This creates a comfortable situation for himself in his throw-off. The Englishman has 71 left while Smith has 236 left to clear. King turns tops and hits with the third dart.

13:47

The players take the stage

First the outsider comes on stage and even unpacks a few dance steps. Then Mervyn King goes upstairs with a smile. The players are in high spirits. And the audience sing Mervyn King choirs.

13:31

Smith with outsider chances

The two players have never met before. Because of this, no favorite can be identified. In terms of experience and skill level, King has the edge. Smith has to repeat his performance from the third round at least if he wants to crown his strong World Cup.

13:22

Will the “King” make it back to the semi-finals after 13 years?

His opponent is still the favorite in the game. Most of King’s successes were a few years ago, but in the past two years he has caused quite a stir at major tournaments. This year he was really lucky with the tournament tree for the World Cup. In round three, the Englishman beat Steve Lennon 4-0 with a 92 average. If he wins today, Wade wins against Kleermaker in the quarter-finals. A semi-finals, like in 2009, is definitely possible.

13:10

The conqueror of Hempel

The “Guru”, Raymond Smith, threw out the German surprise Florian Hempel in the previous round. The game ended clearly 4-1 for the Australian. This World Cup is already the greatest success of his career. Against Hempel he played a good average of almost 95 points and had a double rate of almost 39 percent. Those are numbers with which he shouldn’t have to hide against Mervyn King either.

12:59
