Extension “easy decision”
Joe Gomez has extended his contract with Liverpool, which originally ran until 2024. The Reds officially announced this on Thursday. According to English media reports, the 25-year-old centre-back has signed a new contract until 2027. Gomez, who was out for months in the 2020/21 season with a patellar tendon injury, did not get beyond the role of substitute last season, standing 1,036 minutes in 21 games the place.
He feels “still young,” Gomez explained. “I still have a lot to learn and I have the time to do it. I think I have the opportunity to do that here, with the coach and the coaching staff around me and my teammates to make sure the best years are still ahead of me.” Extra time is “obviously a special moment for me and my family. Another moment that you dream of as a child and that I don’t take for granted. It’s an incredible place, probably one of the best – if not the best – club in the world in my eyes. The opportunity to extend my contract here was really an easy decision.”
