“He’s really a lively boy, smart player, good dribbler, fast, can use both legs. He is good. It was nice to see, really nice to see – he comes in and a lot of things are immediately obvious to him, which is really helpful,” Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp praised 17-year-old offensive talent Ben Doak after his debut in the A-Elf last week against Derby County in the EFL Cup. The Scotland Under-21 international, who switched from Celtic Glasgow’s youth team to the Reds’ Under-18s for a fee of €710,000 in the summer, has now signed his first professional contract at Anfield.

The young right winger came on for Fábio Carvalho against Derby and played his first 16 minutes in Liverpool’s star ensemble. Klopp then called the youngster into the squad for the league game against Southampton. In the 3-1 win against the “Saints”, however, Doak remained unused. While the club did not provide any information on the term of its new working paper, according to media reports this should amount to three years.

Since moving to the U18 Premier League and the UEFA Youth League, Doak has contributed 12 goals in 11 games for the youth team, plus one goal in three Premier League 2 games.
