Liverpool FC calls for game against Arsenal to be canceled

Jürgen Klopps FC Liverpool is one of the Premier League teams most severely plagued by Corona. The personnel situation is so tense that the club is trying to reschedule the game.

Liverpool FC has requested that the semi-final first leg against Arsenal FC in the English League Cup scheduled for Thursday be postponed. The reason are further suspected corona cases, as the Reds announced. First-team training was canceled on Tuesday after further positive tests were found on players and staff.

“No prospect of improvement”

In addition to coach Jürgen Klopp, regular players Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip and goalkeeper Alisson were missing in the duel at Chelsea (2: 2) on Sunday because of suspected corona infection.

Liverpool have now stated that other factors such as injuries and the surrender of players like Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita to the Africa Cup would affect the availability of players for the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

“With no prospect of the current situation improving or possibly getting worse ahead of Thursday’s game, the club think it would be wise and sensible to request a rescheduling of the game,” said Liverpool.

The English Football League said it would “make a decision as soon as possible once the circumstances have been fully examined”.
