Liverpool defeats Manchester City and advances to FA Cup final

Double pack by Mané

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC have made it into the final of the English FA Cup with a furious 3: 2 (3: 0) against Manchester City. The convincing Reds defeated Pep Guardiola’s side in the semi-finals at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday and can still hope for four title wins in one season. The opponent in the final on May 14 in Wembley will be determined on Sunday (5:30 p.m. / DAZN) in the game between Chelsea FC and Crystal Palace.

Liverpool FC, who after their success in the League Cup as second in the table in the Premier League and semi-finalist in the Champions League, can still win three more trophies, started enthusiastically. Former Leipzig Bundesliga professional Ibrahima Konaté (9th minute) with a header and Sadio Mané (17th) after a serious goalkeeping mistake by substitute keeper Zack Steffen gave the Klopp team an early lead. Before the break, Mané increased again with a volley to make it 3-0 (45th).

Without Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne, the “Citizens” disappointed for a long time. Only after the break did the Guardiola team come into play and was able to shorten the gap: Jack Grealish scored two minutes after the restart after work by Gabriel Jesus. However, the final offensive with the 2:3 connection by Bernardo Silva (90+1) came too late. Liverpool can still hope for their first FA Cup triumph since 2006.

“You can’t fight for four trophies, you can only be part of four competitions,” Klopp explained in advance. Asked about the possible title quadruple, Klopp added that he wouldn’t and wouldn’t talk about it because then people would think “I’m completely crazy.”
