Liverpool beat Man City to win first title of the season

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC have won the first title of the season. The “Reds” prevailed in the Community Shield against champions Manchester City.

Liverpool FC has won the first title of the new football season in England. In the duel for the Supercup – the so-called Community Shield – the FA Cup winner defeated champions Manchester City 3-1 (1-0) on Saturday. Mohamed Salah with a penalty in the 83rd minute and new signing Darwin Núñez in stoppage time made for a fair success in an intense game. Trent Alexander-Arnold initially gave Liverpool the lead (21′), Julian Alvarez equalized (70′).

Liverpool come into the game better

Because of the women’s football European Championship final between England and Germany this Sunday in London’s Wembley Stadium, the game for the English Supercup did not take place there this time, but in the stadium of last year’s winners Leicester City.

The Liverpool team coached by Jürgen Klopp got into the game better than the City team coached by Pep Guardiola. Salah had the first opportunity in the third minute with a shot at the side netting. Alexander-Arnold then hit the inside post with a flick from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-0.

Erling Haaland, who was signed from Dortmund, did not come into play at Manchester because City could hardly find their way onto the offensive. In the 34th minute, the goalscorer from Norway had two chances within a few seconds, which he couldn’t take.

New signing Darwin Núñez, who had just come on as a substitute, missed the great opportunity to make it 2-0 for Liverpool. The 22-year-old, who came from Benfica, shot goalkeeper Ederson who had run out in the 64th minute. Alvarez equalized a little later, after which Guardiola brought on German international Ilkay Gündogan. But the decision was made on the other side by Salah with a penalty after video evidence and Núñez (90+4) with a header.
