Liverpool and ManCity continue – now cracker duel in the semifinals

The two rivals for the English championship title, FC Liverpool and Manchester City, are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. It was difficult for Jürgen Klopp’s team. In the semifinals it comes to a cracker.

English champions and leaders Manchester City and Premier League contenders Liverpool FC meet in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Man City, who last won the cup three years ago, beat Southampton FC 4-1 (1-1) in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Liverpool made the semi-final hit a little later with a narrow 1-0 (0-0) at second division Nottingham Forest.

Diogo Jota (78th) scored the winning goal in Nottingham for coach Jürgen Klopp’s team, who now have to play away at City and star coach Pep Guardiola on April 16th. Already on April 10, the two rivals will play against each other in the Premier League, where Liverpool are only one point behind City.

Own goal does not bring ManCity off track

Raheem Sterling (12th minute), Kevin De Bruyne (62nd) with a penalty, Phil Foden (75th) and Riyad Mahrez (78th) shot the “Cityzens” in Southampton to the next round. A professional from Man City also scored the goal for the hosts. An own goal by Aymeric Laporte (45+2) led to an equalizer for the “Saints”.

Everton FC had previously experienced a cup debacle at Crystal Palace. Coach Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened team, 17th in the Premier League table, lost 4-0 (2-0) in London and can now devote themselves entirely to the fight to stay up in the league. On the other hand, Palace will contest the other semi-final on April 16 at Champions League winners and club world champions Chelsea.

Chelsea advanced to the next round of the cup competition on Saturday. The club from London, which is up for sale and has been subject to severe sanctions by the British government because of its Russian owner Roman Abramowitsch, had won 2-0 (2-0) at second division club FC Middlesbrough. Romelu Lukaku (15th) and Hakim Ziyech (31st) scored for the team coached by Thomas Tuchel.
