Final trainer Wiegman: First focused, then celebration beast

A counter-model to Spain’s coach Vilda is the English coach Sarina Wiegman: The Dutchwoman seems a bit strict (“I’m totally focused“), but is completely accepted in the team and can really celebrate after a success. What she demonstrated, for example, after the European Championship triumph in the dressing room. Wiegman is different from Vilda, who is also outside the cheering team after victories right in the middle – and sometimes in a wet and happy way.

Final coach Vilda: Controversial, on strike, successful

A lot has been written about Spain national coach Jorge Vilda in the past eleven months. About 15 players leaving the team because of Vilda. About the fact that he massively interferes with the privacy of the players. About the fact that some players came back before the World Cup. And last but not least, the fact that the Spanish press writes that Vilda has to be rehabilitated because of his success. But: did the players make it to the final because of or despite Vilda?

Royal support: 1-0 for Spain

Spain and England still have royal houses, constitutional monarchies, to be precise – and of course in both countries it matters whether royal support is making its way to Sydney. The answer is: Spain’s Queen Letizia is with her daughter Sofia in the stadium in Sydney, the British royal family has canceled the planned flight again. After all, King Charles wished the English team success in a message published on Sunday morning. “Good luck today lionesses and may you rush to victory”, wrote the monarch. Prince William and daughter Charlotte already published a greeting on Saturday, in which William says: “We are so proud of what you have already achieved.”

Here at Sydney’s Australia Stadium, around 75,000 people will be watching the final in a few hours and hopefully will see a wonderful game. It’s still empty, the sun is shining, it’s just before 2 p.m. in Sydney.

USreferee in the final

German football fans can certainly still remember Tori Penso. The American took charge of the DFB women’s opening game against Morocco. Now she can referee the final between Spain and England.

Preview: Spanish art versus English efficiency

When Spain and England play for the World Cup crown in the final in Sydney on Sunday, that’s logical on the one hand. However, the two very self-confident teams have starting positions that could hardly be more different.
