Black day
Museum director Harry Tupan speaks of a black day. “Not only for us, but also for the National History Museum in Bucharest, the owner of the collection. We have never experienced such a great incident in our existence. It does my much sorrow that things have stolen from our colleagues.”
Tupan explains that the masterpiece, the golden helmet of Cotofenesti, is one of the pieces that the perpetrators have taken. “It comes from the fifth century BC and was really the masterpiece from the exhibition. You can assume that some prior knowledge was involved.”
Three gold bracelets were also stolen. How much further has been stolen is not clear. But according to Tupan, ‘it is not about dozens’. According to Tupan, nothing can be said about the value. It is mainly about the cultural value of the masterpieces, says Tupan.
