Mannheim is still clearly superior, Verl concentrates entirely on defending. It seems only a matter of time before the home side turn the game around.
Almost an own goal by Jans! The defender runs a through ball into the penalty area at the penalty spot in front of Otto, but also puts the ball past Bartels, who had come out. Shortly before the line, however, he can still slide the play equipment away.
Something has to change with the guests, two changes should ensure that. Otto and Meijer replace Šapina and Sessa.
Stijn Meijer comes on at SC Verl
Substitution at SC Verl: Nicolás Sessa
Substitution at SC Verl: Yari Otto
Substitution at SC Verl: Vinko Šapina
Yellow card for Torge Paetow (SC Verl)
The guests react to the improved Mannheimer with duel toughness. After a tactical entry in midfield, Paetow is now also cautioned.
The subsequent free-kick is taken to the front corner of the five-yard box, but can be clarified. We haven’t seen any action from Verl in the opposing half since the change.
Yellow card for Maximilian Wolfram (SC Verl)
Wolfram brings Lebeau down on the left with a sliding tackle. But he sees the next warning.
It’s really remarkable how changed the hosts are now here. Neidhart probably found the right words in the dressing room.
It’s a one-goal game, and Winkler is the lynchpin. He breaks through again on the right after a pass from Jans and tries again with a flat return. Lebeau’s shot can then be blocked by Ochojski on the left of the penalty area.
Martinovic takes heart from 25 meters on the left, the low shot goes towards the short corner. However, Thiede is there, dives and can parry the bounce to the side. The following corner is then not dangerous.
The build-up game of the guests does not work as well as before the tea break. Šapina now plays a ball relatively unchallenged from her own penalty area into the touch.
The hosts come out of the cabin at a decent pace and push Verl in the back. Mannheim’s game looks much more purposeful and clearer than before the change of sides.
Almost the same combination as the equalizer, just without a goal. Winkler lets two players out on the right side of the baseline with a great trick and then puts it back to Martinovic. His low shot from twelve meters is then too central, Thiede can parry.
Then it goes on. Both teams came out of the dressing room unchanged.
Kick-off 2nd half
Then it’s already a break, between Mannheim and Verl it is 1: 1. We experienced an uneventful first half, which the guests had better under control, especially at the beginning. After a mistake by Bartels, the hosts took the lead, but the hosts were able to equalize it with the first successful attack just before the break whistle. For the second half we are hoping for an increase in performance, especially in front of the goals. See you soon.
In the first section, two minutes are replayed. After a duel between Wagner and Baack, things get hectic again, but in the end, Heft calms things down.
Official injury time (minutes): 2
Tooor for Waldhof Mannheim, 1: 1 by Dominik Martinovic
The equalizer in the first section falls out of nowhere. Winkler is found by Jans on the right and can break through to the baseline. From there he lays flat back to the penalty spot, where Verl completely forgot about Martinovic. The attacker slams the ball directly into the net and cannot be defended against by Thiede.
Following a corner from the left, Rossipal finishes from nine yards to the left of the penalty area. Trying to get out of trouble is no problem for Thiede.
When things start to get dangerous, Lebeau is involved. Again he leaves several opponents with a climber on the left, but can then still be prevented on the flank.
Rossipal takes a free kick from the left half-field to the second post, but only finds players from the guests there. The flanks fizzle out so far without any danger.
The guests withdraw more and more as the game goes on and probably want to act on the counterattack. Thiede in particular felt the displeasure of the home fans because he took his time with his actions.
Yellow card for Vinko Šapina (SC Verl)
Mikic fouled in midfield, but Šapina was particularly upset about this decision. The midfielder is cautioned for these clear words.
Both teams neutralize each other with intensive duels, referee Heft has to intervene more and more often. We are currently experiencing hardly any chances to score.
Frenchman Lebeau brings it in and there is also some chaos in the guests’ penalty area. But it’s not enough for a degree.
Lebeau carries the ball into the opposing half at high speed, and Baack finally brings Martinovic down. Free kick for Mannheim from the left half field.
The guests keep trying long throws into the penalty area, but these are not really dangerous. The home side have probably adapted well to these standard situations.
Lebeau can get through on a counterattack on the left with a step-over, but the ball jumps just before the cross. Only Stöcker can reach it just before the sideline and can build up again.
Good luck for Thiede after a free kick from the right half field. The cross sails into the penalty area, but no player gets to the ball. It therefore bounces up again in the six-yard space and then hits the chest of the keeper, who reacted very strangely. No Mannheimer can collect the rebound
If Verl can overplay the first pressing line, then Corboz is always involved. The captain has a good feel for the spaces between the chains.
Again it is Wagner who closes, Mannheim comes in better. The shot from the right edge of the penalty area goes well over it.
Now the pressing of the home side takes effect, so far it has always come to nothing. This is how Wagner comes to an end after a bad pass from Thiede from a central position of 20 meters. The keeper can then steer the central shot over the box, the subsequent corner poses no danger.
Paetow needs treatment after a duel with Martinovic. But it can certainly continue for the central defender.
The guests play here, but surprisingly fresh, have complete control of the game. They had hoped for more from Mannheim, the hosts have to find their way into this game at some point.
And the SCV continues to move forward. Batista-Meier goes through to the right and crosses to the middle. Wolfram is actually free to head the ball seven meters from the goal, but has a reserve and can therefore not push the ball. Bartels only has to pick up the play equipment.
Tooor for SC Verl, 0:1 by Oliver Batista-Meier
The visitors take the lead and that’s okay. After a throw-in from the left, Verl settles in the opposing penalty area. Sapina then simply pulls away from a half-left position from 20 meters away, Bartels can only let the central try go forward. Batista-Meier reacts the fastest there and heads in from six meters into the lower left corner. The keeper didn’t look good there.
The SCV’s play structure is very well thought out, nobody gets hectic there, even when the opponent approaches. The allusions between the lines are still missing in order to be able to carry this foundation forward.
Waldhof Mannheim is slowly getting active too, with a good combination from the left, Martinovic Sohm finds a back-heel pass in the penalty area on the left. His shot hit the crossbar from 14 meters on the right, but the flag was already up. The hit wouldn’t have counted.
Corboz recorded the first shot, but his left-footed shot from 20 meters in the center hopped clearly past the left. The attacker didn’t really hit him.
The hosts give Verl the ball first. The guests calmly build up without coming forward. So the game starts quietly.
Verl shows himself in front for the first time with a free kick from the left half field. However, this does not pose any danger because it is an offside position.
Then the ball rolls. Mannheim has initiated.
At this moment, the teams step onto the lawn together with referee Florian Heft. The game can start in a few minutes.
There have been five meetings between these two teams in the 3rd division so far, but Verl have yet to win any. So Mannheim is something of a feared opponent, three games ended victoriously for the people of Quadratestadt and there were two draws. In the first leg, both teams delivered an exciting 2-2, after Mannheim had only taken the lead in the 90th minute, Corboz equalized in the fifth minute of injury time. Of course we are hoping for a spectacle like this today.
Verl certainly has some objections to that. With 27 points, 27 own goals and 27 goals conceded, they are in 11th place in the table, far from good and bad. However, this can also be an advantage, because the village team should not feel any pressure. None of the three games after the restart were lost, two draws were followed by a win against Saarbrücken. The shape is also right for the guests.
The hosts can take a big step in the promotion race today. With 35 points, the city of squares is fifth in the table, just one point behind fourth-placed Saarbrücken. Since the second representation of Freiburg is not allowed to rise, this place would be enough for the relegation. In addition to this good starting position, the current form also speaks for a victory for the home side. The last three league games have all been won, with at least three of their own goals always being achieved. However, there are problems on the defensive, 32 goals conceded are negative values in the top third of the table. Can you create a clean slate again today?
To start, let’s take a look at the lineups. Coach Christian Neidhart has made a change for the hosts compared to the last game. Winkler is there for Pledl, so the new signing gets a breather today. The hosts still have to do without Bolay, Dörfler, Gohlke and Höger. Verl coach Michel Kniat also rotates, also in one position. Instead of Grodowski, Batista-Meier was on the pitch from the start. The guests can draw almost from the full. Only Grodowski is missing because of his 5th yellow card.
Welcome to the end of the 21st matchday in the 3rd division, today Mannheim and Verl meet. Kick-off at the Carl Benz Stadium is at 7:00 p.m.!
