It’s about to go on

In a few minutes it’s on to Q2 where the battle for first pole position will be fought at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Then Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio will continue to be there.

08:43

Bagnaia and Di Giannantonio are through

Nothing has changed in the order because of the falls. Francesco Bagnaia takes rookie Fabio Di Giannantonio with him into Q2 and ultimately prevails in front of Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi.

08:41

Marquez crashes again!

Incomprehensible! Marc Márquez practically blows the fuses, chooses too high a risk again and ends up in the gravel bed again. A few moments later Joan Mir crashes to the ground and is out.

08:40

Last round

Only two minutes left on the clock! In addition to Marc Márquez, team-mate Pol Espargaro, who was on the podium in Qatar, is also struggling and is now in ninth position.

08:39

Guided tour for Bagnaia

Vice World Champion Francesco Bagnaia hits the asphalt with a new best time and thus takes the lead in the time table. Then, while Fabio Di Giannantonio improved to second place, Marco Bezzecchi also crashed.

08:37

Binders far back

In a comparison of the four rookies, Fabio Di Giannantonio is currently in the lead and ranks fifth. Raúl Fernández and Remy Gardner are lurking further behind, while Darryn Binder is holding a red lantern.

08:35

Fall of Marquez!

That was implied! Marc Márquez’s bike is incredibly nervous, then the Spaniard overdoes it on his fast lap and ends up in the gravel in a left-hand bend. Márquez gets back up immediately and sprints back into the pit lane.

08:33

Short breather

Almost all drivers temporarily returned to the pits after the first run. Francesco Bagnaia is currently leading ahead of Marco Bezzecchi, who would both move into Q2 with this result. Only Marc Márquez is currently on the track. There are seven minutes left on the clock.

08:32

Best time of Bagnaia

Now Francesco Bagnaia pulls hard on the throttle and beats Marco Bezzecchi’s target by three hundredths. Meanwhile, Marc Márquez drove into the pits and changed his bike.

08:31

First sign of Bezzecchi

Marco Bezzecchi sets the first noteworthy mark with a time of 1:31.695 minutes. The Italian thus distances Luca Marini, who is currently second, by almost a tenth.

08:29

Will Marquez deliver?

After years of injury worries, Marc Márquez is aiming to compete for the championship again this season, so the Honda ace is the top favorite to qualify for Q2 here. The Spaniard had to take part in the first part of the qualification ten times in his career anyway.

08:28

It is getting serious

All pilots are now on the track. Maverick Viñales was the longest in the pits but is now out too and preparing for his first fast laps.

08:26

Here we go!

The clock is ticking in Q1, the drivers now have 15 minutes to set a perfect lap. Marc Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio make the start, leaving the pit lane with their motorcycles and chasing times.

08:15

FP4 is over

The fourth practice session has just ended, where the teams mainly set up their bikes for tomorrow’s race. There, Franco Morbidelli set the fastest time ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Quartararo. Marc Márquez ended up eleventh but struggled with a very choppy bike at numerous moments.

07:56

Qualifying delayed

It has just been announced that Q1 will only start at 08:25 (CET). The fourth practice session was interrupted for a long time after Alex Rins’ bike caught fire on the track and race officials had to spread binding agent at this point. Accordingly, the cleaning work lasted for a few minutes and is the reason for the delay.

07:49

Yamaha suddenly ahead

After the disappointing start to the season, the two Yamaha riders are now fighting for pole position again. World champion Fabio Quartararo and his teammate Franco Morbidelli finished first and second at the end of the practice sessions and have thus moved into the group of favourites. The Frenchman was cautiously optimistic afterwards and spoke of a good feeling. Due to the fact that the longest straight in Mandalika is only around 500 meters long, the much-discussed top speed disadvantage of the bike doesn’t seem to have much of an impact.

07:38

Marquez has to go through Q1

In the first leg of qualifying, some big names will be fighting for a place in Q2. In contrast to Friday, no further improvements were possible in the early morning in the third practice session on a drying track. Although Marc Márquez set the fastest lap earlier, he was unable to make it into the top ten in the combined timesheets. Vice World Champion Francesco Bagnaia and Joan Mir also have to accept the detour.

07:30

Premiere on Lombok

The new track on the Indonesian holiday island of Lombok was only opened by the Superbike World Championship at the end of November 2021 – now it is the turn of the MotoGP riders for the first time. The course has a total length of 4,310 meters and consists of eleven right-hand and six left-hand corners. Before the current weekend, those involved only knew the terrain from three-day test drives at the beginning of the year.

Welcome!

25 years after the last Grand Prix, MotoGP is back in Indonesia. At the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, the drivers are fighting for the last places in Q2. It starts at 8:05 a.m.!
