Van Gerwen comes out of the break well and starts with his tenth 180. Willams can’t keep up, but with a 180 he takes the 81. The 142 is too much for MVG, but Willams can’t get a dart on doubles at 81 and sets himself tops . With 78 remaining, van Gerwen misses a dart on the D20. Williams can’t get the break and misses three darts, but van Gerwen also misses three. Willams can’t take advantage of the mistake and misses three darts at double. Van Gerwen gets the leg in the Mad House.

Willams is on the verge of knocking van Gerwen out of the tournament here! The Englishman is there in the crucial moments and does very well on the doubles. He has a checkout rate of 41 percent and van Gerwen has 31. The scoring has dropped for both of them and they are at around 90 points per shot.

Williams in the lead

In his own leg, van Gerwen didn’t score particularly well and only managed a 76 with 133 remaining. Willams played his way down from 161 to 40. MVG can’t clear the 76 and doesn’t get a dart on doubles. Willams takes the leg with the first dart on tops and takes the lead 4:3.

MVG can’t keep up

Van Gerwen can’t keep up with the scoring in this leg. Willams plays 140 with 176 remaining and van Gerwen is at 205 and sets 148. With the first dart on the D18, the Englishman takes the leg.

Both are looking for a triple in this leg. Both play a 140 and Willams gets to the finish area first, but the 146 is too much. At 139, van Gerwen doesn’t get a dart on doubles and only scores 44 points. Willams can’t get the break on the D14 and MVG gets the leg on the D19 to make it 1-1

Willams plays his ninth 180 and van Gerwen responds with a 140. Willams plays a 100 at 164 while van Gerwen is at 185 and faces Tops. He checks the 64 twice over S16 and D16.

Both are now weak in scoring, but van Gerwen gets into the finish area first and puts up 146. Willams does better and now has 85 over. Shaggy misses a dart on the bullseye and van Gerwen takes the set to 3:3 over the S20 and D16.

Willams plays his eighth 180 and van Gerwen responds with his ninth maximum. However, van Gerwen’s transition is not good and has 164 remaining and faces 100. At 106, Shaggy plays a 58 and 48 left. MVG clears the 100 with the T20 and the first dart on tops.

Van Gerwen starts weakly and only plays a 66, but Willams also only gets 43 points on the board. Then van Gerwen throws in 134 and Willams can’t answer. With a good transition, van Gerwen scores 87 points. He hits the T17 and the first attempt at the T18 sits.

Van Gerwen cannot get his problems on the doubles under control and has a checkout rate of only 21 percent. Williams is doing much better than the Dutchman and is at 40 percent. There has to be more to come from the three-time world champion if he wants to reach the semi-finals here.

Willams is outrunning van Gerwen here and has 121 remaining and MVG is only at 346. The 121 is still too much, but he faces the D16. He checks it with the first dart and takes the lead 3:2.

Williams takes advantage of mistakes

Van Gerwen isn’t doing much at the moment and he’s only hitting a few triples. With 122 remaining he hits the T18 twice and misses on the D7. Willams takes advantage again and plays the T20 with 90 remaining and hits the D15 with the first dart.

Willams starts strong with a 140, but van Gerwen responds with his eighth 180. Willams can’t keep up and van Gerwen follows up with a 100. But Shaggy plays a 171 and has 132 remaining and van Gerwen 81. Willams hits the bullseye twice and misses on the D16. MVG misses two darts again and Shaggy gets the leg.

At first it seemed as if van Gerwen had overcome his weak start to the doubles. But in the fourth set he left too much lying around again and Willams took advantage of it mercilessly again. MVG has already thrown 19 darts past the doubles, but still has an average of around 98 points. Williams currently has an average of 93.

William’s scoring is now better than van Gerwen’s and has 143 remaining. He can’t check it and puts himself at 80. With 104 remaining, van Gerwen throws a dart on the D20 and Willams also misses a dart on the D20. The Dutchman throws three darts past the double and Willams takes the set to equalize 2-2 on the D10 with the second dart.

Willams gets his leg through

Willams throws his seventh 180 and follows up with a 100. Things don’t go so well for van Gerwen and he doesn’t have a finish, while Shaggy tries 161 and finally faces 56 rest. He hits the T16 and ends up checking over the D2.

The scoring for both is still high and Williams has a finish first in van Gerwen’s throw leg, but misses a dart on the D20 at 121. He then gets the break to make it 1-0 on the D10 with the second dart.

Van Gerwen takes the lead

Van Gerwen doesn’t let up in scoring, but Williams also throws his sixth 180. With 121 remaining, Williams plays a 69 and has 52 remaining and van Gerwen doesn’t have a finish yet. He cannot delete the 52 and van Gerwen plays the S20 and S8 for tops with 68 remaining and clearly misses. Williams can’t answer and misses three darts. The Dutchman gets the set on the D16.

MVG plays his sixth 180 and has 121 remaining after nine darts. He hits the bullseye, the T13 and takes the leg on the D16.

Van Gerwen attacks Willams’ leg and plays his way to 82 with a 180. He misses a dart on tops and Willams gets his throw through and hits the D16 in the first attempt.

Van Gerwen plays his leg from the front and puts himself at 154. Williams only plays down from 259 to 200. He cannot clear the 154 and has 60 points remaining. Mighty Mike plays the S20 and hits the D20 with the first dart.

Van Gerwen was able to improve enormously and his scoring and double rate have improved. Mighty Mike has an average of 107 points and Willams has 100. On the doubles, van Gerwen now has 3 out of 15 and Willams 4 out of 10.

Van Gerwen starts with a 100 and Williams follows suit with an 85. MVG continues strong and throws a 140, but Shaggy counters it with a maximum. Van Gerwen has 127 remaining and Williams still has one finish. MVG faces 25 and again misses two darts on doubles. The 150 is too much for Williams and van Gerwen takes the leg with the second dart on the D4.

MVG actually plays it well and has an average of 96 points. However, his double quota is a disaster. He missed seven times in seven attempts. Williams exploits the mistakes mercilessly and deserves a 1-0 lead here.

Next sensation?

Scott Williams played an excellent tournament and knocked seeded players out of the tournament one after the other. After the 3-1 opening win against Haruki Muramatsu, a clear 3-0 win against seventh-seeded Danny Noppert followed. In the third round, the 33-year-old narrowly beat Martin Schindler 4:3 and in the round of 16 the Englishman impressed 4:1 against Damon Heta, who was the tenth seed.

The 34-year-old showed brilliant performances throughout the entire tournament and has not lost a single set so far. With a tournament average of 99.94, he has the second highest value. Only Dobey is better than “Mighty Mike” with 102.63. MVG is the front runner for doubles and is at the top with 54 percent. His current opponent is right behind him with 47 percent.

Michael van Gerwen is in impressive form. In the round of 16, Dutchman Stephen Bunting swept the stage 4-0. The three-time world champion played an average of just under a hundred and a checkout rate of 44 percent.
