Live ticker Kölner Haie – Grizzlys Wolfsburg (DEL 2022/2023, 2nd matchday)

20:59

third conclusion:
After 40 minutes, the Haie were only 2-1 up against Wolfsburg! After the strong opening third, the Rhinelanders dropped a lot in the middle section and hardly had any chances. The Grizzlies took a while to get their rhythm back but clearly dominated the last ten minutes. The goal by Braun was only logical, the Lower Saxony even had enough great chances to equalize or even take the lead. Mirko Pantkowski made sure that his sharks are still in front with some brilliant acts. If Cologne doesn’t pick up again in the final section, it may not stay that way. Let’s continue with the final 20 minutes in the Lanxess Arena!

39

20:54

Now Wolfsburg is pressing again and the equalizer is very close! Spencer Machacek is served the disc from behind the goal in the slot and is completely free there. But his one-timer ends up with Pantkowski.

37

20:52

The hosts come to a conclusion again on the counterattack. Landon Ferraro brings the disc in on the right, could then serve Proft in front of the goal, but does it himself. Justin Pogge remains stable and defends.

36

20:51

The sharks continue to be amazingly passive. It almost only plays Wolfsburg and the hosts usually run behind.

34

20:47

Wolfsburg is simply more alert, wins more face-offs and now has the next chance. Fabio Pfohl marches through to the left face-off circle, but then aims exactly at Mirko Pantkowski.

32

20:44

Goal for Grizzlies Wolfsburg, 2:1 by Laurin Braun

But now! Wolfsburg stays tuned after the big chance and now rewards itself. Laurin Braun pulls the trigger from the hustle and pushes the disc out of the high slot flat into the right corner. Pantkowski has no chance because he was pressed by Schinko, but he was pushed by a man from Cologne and the goal counts according to video evidence.

32

20:43

Suddenly the huge opportunity for the grizzlies! Pogge comes far out of his goal and chips the disc long forward. Braun follows, runs the thing and sees Beaudin in front of the box, who fails at Pantkowski from a short distance.

32

20:41

Wolfsburg are still doing well away from home here and are the more active team but aren’t nearly as focused in the second period as they were in the first. The guests would have deserved a goal, but are currently a long way from it.

31

20:39

Now Justin Pogge gets something to do again! David McIntyre unleashes a firecracker from the blue line that deflects and changes trajectory. Wolfsburg’s goalie reacts strongly and grabs.

30

20:35

Half of the middle third is almost over and the Haie have got exactly one shot on target from Justin Pogge so far. The Rhinelanders are currently doing no more than necessary to maintain their lead. Now it’s time for the power break!

28

20:33

This does not look good! Ryan Stanton goes off the ice and straight through to the dressing room. The man from Cologne is holding his left arm and has obviously gotten something.

27

20:32

Overall the pace is pretty fast. Both teams have significantly more inaccuracies in their own game in the middle section than in the first third. From a Cologne 3-on-2, Matsumoto can poke the disc at goal, but Pogge saves safely.

25

20:28

In contrast to the first majority game, the guests get into position quickly this time and also let the disc run smoothly. However, one rarely pulls the trigger and so Cologne didn’t have any major problems surviving the outnumbered team this time either.

23

20:25

Mark Olver

Minor penalty (2 minutes) for Mark Olver (Kölner Haie)

Olver lets Murray pass the gang and then works him up a bit. However, it is doubtful whether this is necessarily a hold. there is still the second power play for Wolfsburg.

23

20:24

Again, little happens on the ice in the first two minutes. Wolfsburg is more active and successfully disrupts the Cologne game again and again, but does not get a chance either.

21

20:21

Beginning of 2nd third

20

20:05

third conclusion:
Ice-cold people from Cologne lead 2-0 against Wolfsburg after 20 minutes! The hosts came in better and took an early lead through Matsumoto in his 150th Haie game. After that, the Grizzlies got stronger and had a lot more chances, but Mirko Pantkowski kept his box clean with some strong saves. Then the guests traded two penalties and thus the second goal by Thuresson. All in all, both teams fired 17 shots and each had eight on target, but Köln were more efficient. See you soon!

20

20:02

Thuresson pulls again from the blue but this time finds his master in Pogge.

19

20:00

Due to the two penalty times, the guests took the wind out of their sails a little. Previously, the Stewart squad clearly set the tone, now Cologne is on top.

17

19:58

This time the grizzlies do it much better outnumbered. The Lower Saxony are very compact, let little through and only have to survive a tricky situation before Schinko comes back.

16

19:57

Luis Schinko

Minor penalty (2 minutes) for Luis Schinko (Grizzlys Wolfsburg)

Another Wolfsburg has to go down! This time it’s Schinko who’s in jail for being hit with a stick.

15

19:55

Andrew Thuresson

Goal for Kölner Haie, 2-0 by Andreas Thuresson

The Cologne team had already scored four power play goals in two games, now there are five! Andreas Thuresson lurks in the face-off circle, stops the pass with his backhand and then flicks the hard rubber wonderfully into the right gable. Louis-Marc Aubry took his eyes off Justin Pogge.

15

19:53

Janik Möser

Minor penalty (2 minutes) for Janik Möser (Grizzlys Wolfsburg)

Now the hosts are allowed to have the majority for the first time. After a bad pass in the Wolfsburg structure, Möser has to correct the situation with a hook.

15

19:53

Wolfsburg has now fired more than twice as many shots as Cologne. The zero is still there, however, because Trevor Mingoia shoots his follow-up shot wide of the right post from close range.

14

19:51

As soon as Matsumoto is back, he becomes dangerous again. From the high slot comes the slap shot on Pogge’s catch hand side, but this time it doesn’t find the target.

13.

19:49

That wasn’t much! Wolfsburg initially does not get along at all in the power play and even goes offside. Only after a minute do the guests form up front, but ultimately remain without a conclusion. Cologne is allowed to fill up again.

11.

19:46

Jon Matsumoto

Minor penalty (2 minutes) for Jon Matsumoto (Kölner Haie)

The first penalty of the game goes against Cologne! Matsumoto has to go into the cooler because of a stick blow.

9.

19:44

The next good opportunity! Rhett Rakhshani saves the disc behind the Cologne goal and then puts it through to Spencer Machacek. The Canadian is completely free two meters in front of Mirko Pantkowski and chases the puck full on his breastplate. There was more in it!

7.

19:42

Wolfsburg is looking for an answer and is now developing significantly more train towards the goal. The grizzlies are also aggressively pursuing and are gaining the upper hand. However, Mingoia, Rakhshani and Morley have not yet reached their goal.

5.

19:40

Matsumoto is celebrating a successful anniversary as he is playing his 150th game for the Sharks today. The 35-year-old has already scored two goals and two assists this season.

4.

19:37

Jon Matsumoto

Goal for Kölner Haie, 1-0 by Jon Matsumoto

And then it rings! Jon Matsumoto puts the home side ahead. The German-Canadian gets the disc in the high slot, hits a hook in front of Pogge and lobs the disc over his saver under the roof. Made strong, but Wolfsburg’s goalie was down pretty early.

4.

19:37

But now! After a fine diagonal pass across the slot, Janik Möser appears on the left in front of Mirko Pantkowski. The Cologne goalie safely defused his slap shot on the short corner.

3.

19:36

Things get off to a relatively leisurely start in the Lanxess Arena. The first minutes come without significant chances and checks. It almost seems as if everyone here wants to warm up a bit before the real action begins.

1.

19:33

Here we go! Mirko Pantkowski starts again in the home team’s goal. Surprisingly, Mike Stewart does not rely on Dustin Strahlmeier for the guests and sends ex-Cologne Justin Pogge onto the ice for the first time.

19:21

Last season, the games between Cologne and Wolfsburg were always close. Three out of four games were only decided in overtime or in a penalty shoot-out. The home team always had the upper hand. Wolfsburg last won in Cologne a year and a half ago.

19:15

The guests from Wolfsburg imagined the start of the new season to be very different. After a 2-0 lead, the Grizzlies conceded five goals in a row against newly promoted Frankfurt and lost 2-5. “That wasn’t what we had planned,” head coach Mike Stewart clarified afterwards and called for an increase in performance from his team. “We can’t afford anything against Cologne and we have to keep our mistakes to a minimum. If we throw everything in and perform well, we give ourselves a chance to score points,” said Stewart.

19:06

The great euphoria after the successful 6:3 start against last year’s finalists Munich was quickly gone in the cathedral city. The Haie clearly lost 5-2 in Augsburg on Sunday, mainly because they couldn’t make anything countable out of their chances. Louis-Marc Aubry subsequently attempted to pull out the positive. “We had a hard time in Augsburg. But it’s still early enough in the season to learn from one or the other situation,” said the Cologne attacker, who promised improvement for today: “We want to play our best ice hockey again, points and inspire the fans in the Lanxess Arena.”

19:01
