First time stands

Max Verstappen

19:00

Start 3rd training

The traffic lights are green, the 3rd training session in Miami, FL has started. Max Verstappen is among the first on the track. Of course he has a lot of catching up to do today after he could hardly drive yesterday. It was a similar story for Valtteri Bottas, who also had to sit out the second session after a crash in the first practice session. He, too, is already on the course.

18:55

The conditions

There could be rain later in qualifying, for the 3rd practice session the probability of rain is just 20 percent. The track temperature before the 3rd training session is 49 degrees. The air temperature 32 degrees.

18:49

Asphalt work on the track

Not everything is running smoothly on the new track in Miami. The asphalt in turns 7 and 17 already had to be renewed on Friday night. In the night of Saturday, the asphalt was renewed again in turn 17. In addition, minor changes were made: the curbs at the pit entrance were replaced with bollards. This is intended to reduce the risk of an accident.

18:44

Vettel beyond the top ten

It’s been difficult for Aston Martin in Miami so far and neither Sebastian Vettel nor Lance Stroll were able to place in the top ten in either the 1st or the 2nd practice session. So today you have to find an answer if you want to fight for Q3 later in qualifying. Mick Schumacher also struggled on the course in Florida. As in the first race weekends, the German youngster couldn’t keep up with his teammate Kevin Magnussen.

18:36

Mechanical problems at Red Bull

Red Bulls, however, once again struggled with reliability problems. Max Verstappen was only able to do a few laps in FP1 and spent most of the session in the garage repairing an overheated gearbox. The team ended up changing it as a precaution for 2nd practice, which cost them time. Going out on track, he lost his steering due to a hydraulic problem, forcing him back into the pits again and preventing him from setting a lap.

18:30

Is Mercedes back?

Mercedes has been the big problem child of the 2022 season so far. Now it seems that they have caught up with Red Bull and Ferrari, at least on the Miami track. In the second practice session on Friday, George Russell secured the best time. For Lewis Hamilton it was fourth place. At Ferrari, feelings were mixed. Leclerc was up front again while teammate Carlos Sainz crashed again, putting even more pressure on himself.

Warm welcome!

Hello and welcome to day two of the grand Formula 1 premiere in Miami. At 7:00 p.m. the 3rd training session is on the agenda.
