Live ticker FC Bayern Munich – SV Werder Bremen (Bundesliga 2023/2024, 18th matchday)

It is the 114th Bundesliga duel between Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen – no other game has happened so often in BL history. FCB only suffered more BL defeats against Borussia Mönchengladbach (28) than against Bremen (26), Bremen against Bayern more than against any other team (61, plus 26 D).

FC Bayern has been unbeaten in 32 competitive games against Werder Bremen (W28 D4, 100-21 goals), since 2-5 in September 2008. No other team in German professional football has had such a long unbeaten streak against an opponent.

With 41 points after 16 games, FC Bayern Munich is having its best Bundesliga season in eight years – in 2015/16 under Pep Guardiola there were even 43 points after 16 games. The Munich team won nine of the last 10 BL games, the only one not being 1-5 in Frankfurt on matchday 14.

Werder Bremen recently remained undefeated in four Bundesliga games in a row for the first time under Ole Werner (W1 D3), most recently there were three draws in a row. Werder recently scored three times in a row after falling behind, something Bremen had last achieved at the start of the 2022/23 season.

Werder Bremen is the weakest away team this Bundesliga season with just three points (3D L5). Apart from Bremen, only FSV Mainz remained without an away win in the first half of the season (6 points). Three points after eight BL away games is Werder’s weakest record in 46 years; in 1977/78 it was only one point.

Only bottom-placed SV Darmstadt (294) had fewer ball actions in the opponent’s penalty area this Bundesliga season than Werder Bremen (329). FC Bayern Munich, however, had the most ball actions in the opponent’s penalty area in the league (655, almost twice as many as Bremen).

Bayern’s Harry Kane scored 22 goals in the first half of the Bundesliga – a record in a BL first half of the season, only Robert Lewandowski had scored as many goals in 2020/21 (Kane still has a catch-up game against Union Berlin). He scored his first goal in a 4-0 away win at Werder Bremen in August.

Bayern’s Leroy Sané collected his ninth and tenth assists of this Bundesliga season against Hoffenheim – this is already a new personal record within a BL season, and at the same time he is the top provider in this BL season. He scored his first BL brace in the 4-0 win in Bremen in the first half of the season.

Leonardo Bittencourt and Marvin Ducksch are missing from Werder Bremen due to suspension. With 11 goals (7 goals, 4 assists), Ducksch is by far Bremen’s top scorer this Bundesliga season; he will miss a BL game for the first time since Bremen’s resurgence.

As a professional coach, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel celebrated as many victories against no other club as against SV Werder Bremen (10). Since a 1-1 draw at home with FSV Mainz in 2013, he has won his last eight BL duels in a row – no other coach in BL history has managed such a long winning streak against Bremen.
