Leverkusen’s structure is now being attacked higher, but after overplaying the first opposing team, the spaces behind them are also larger. Half an hour before the end, the Alonso selection has every chance again.
Julian Nagelsmann sends the warned Pavard into the early end of the day. He replaces the Frenchman with Stanišić.
Josip Stanišić comes on at Bayern Munich
Substitution at Bayern Munich: Benjamin Pavard
Tooor for Bayer Leverkusen, 1:1 by Exequiel Palacios
Bayer equalizes! Palacios runs up, sees Sommer’s decision to jump to the right, and slides the ball safely into the low left corner.
There are penalty kick for Leverkusen! According to the referee, Adli committed a yellow-worthy swallow at the end of a counter-attack, but de Ligt hit him clearly on the right foot in the penalty area, even taking his shoe off. Referee Tobias Stieler is called into the review area by VAR and quickly points to the point.
Sané hits a hook on the half-left edge of the sixteen and then takes the measurement with the right inner instep. Due to a strong reserve, the ball sails well over Hrádecký’s box.
Kimmich was put under pressure by an inaccurate back pass from Goretzka on the edge of his own sixteen. In dire need, he saves from Diaby with a clean tackle, through which he plays the ball to keeper Sommer.
While Xabi Alonso does not change personnel during the break and can therefore continue to rely on Wirtz, Julian Nagelsmann sends three fresh players into the race with Gnabry, Coman and Musiala. Mané, Müller and Cancelo stayed in the dressing room.
Welcome back to the second round in the BayArena! As a result of a rather shaky start, the leadership only gave the record champions limited security; up to now it has excelled primarily with its very high level of efficiency. In addition, the Werkself gradually lost their attacking power. Will Leverkusen come back after the break or will FCB keep their two-point lead at the top of the table?

Kick-off 2nd half
FC Bayern Munich leads 1-0 at the break of the Bundesliga away game at Bayer Leverkusen. The Werkself had clear ball possession and field advantages in the early stages and presented Sommer with an unpleasant task when Demirbay tried to convert a corner directly (11′) and Frimpong shot against his direction of travel (17′), but the visiting goalkeeper mastered it. The initially very passive record champion was then able to use his first chance to seize the lead; a deflected shot by Kimmich hit the home box (22nd). Although the Alonso team mostly set the direction after this setback, they missed further clear conclusions. In this way, the guest was able to maintain the narrow advantage, although he had little productive to contribute. See you soon!
Official injury time (minutes): 2
Round one in the BayArena is to be extended by 120 seconds.
Yellow card for Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich)
Pavard lets Hincapié jump over the blade in midfield to stop a quick counterattack from the Farbenstadt team. This tactical offense will result in a warning.
Mané is the addressee of a volley ball de Ligt on the left side of the sixteen. After a dirty contact, the Senegalese lets himself be carried away to an offensive foul against Andrich not far from the baseline.
Yellow card for Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)
Frimpong roughly clears de Ligt not far from the center line and sees the first yellow card of the game. Otherwise referee Tobias Stieler has had a fair duel so far.
Demirbay from the second row! Wirtz first dribbles over the left half into the box before he puts it back for the former Hoffenheim player. He pulls from the central 21 meters with the right, but throws the ball far over it.
Once again, Demirbay circles a corner from the right flag directly in front of the guest box. Although there is a lot of traffic before summer, the Swiss can get the ball out of the danger zone with both fists.
With the lead behind them, the record champions are slightly increasing their share of the game. After a high conquest by Mané, Davies appears on the left side of the sixteen. Before a conclusion, however, Kossounou slows him down according to the rules.
Youngster Wirtz twisted his ankle a few minutes ago and is only limping across the lawn. Xabi Alonso may need to make an early personnel adjustment.
Diaby appears in the offensive center directly in front of the last chain and unpacks a powerful but unplaced shot with the right instep. Summer grabs for sure.
Tooor for Bayern Munich, 0:1 by Joshua Kimmich
Kimmich puts FCB in the lead out of the blue! After a Cancelo cross from the right, Goretzka takes the ball on the left pentagon and then has an eye for the better positioned Kimmich, for whom he puts it back flat. Kimmich shoots from 13 meters with the right inside instep on the left corner. Defender Kossounou deflects into the half-right corner for Hrádecký.
In the pouring rain, the performance of the record champion is not very convincing even at this point. There seems to be no consensus on how to work against the ball.
Frimpong demands summer everything away! The Dutchman is sent by Demirbay to the right side of the penalty area behind the last opposing line. He is caught up again by Davies, but shoots with his left hand from 13 meters past the Canadian on the short corner. Sommer exchanges quickly and prevents the impact with the fingertips of his left hand.
After Frimpong missed taking Adlis’ cross from the left, he put it back for Diaby, who tried a left-footed shot from 20 meters in the middle. The ball sails quite far past the targeted left angle.
Xabi Alonso’s men continue to be the much more active team, without being able to put serious pressure on the Munich defensive department. They get almost two-thirds of possession.
… Demirbay tries it directly! The ex-Hoffenheimer circles the ball from the right flag with the left instep in the middle of the guest box. To be on the safe side, Sommer steers it over the crossbeam with his right hand.
Frimpong forces the premiere corner kick against Davies via his right flank…
The Nagelsmann squad got off to a slow start and retreated relatively far when the opponents had possession of the ball. She is keen to avoid running into a home counterattack at an early stage.
Davies covers the opposing midfield line on the left and sends Goretzka into the alley. The ex-Schalke wants to stage Mané with a half-high cross. It is inaccurate and is intercepted by central defender Kossounou.
The home side dominate the first moments with a long ball possession phase. Adli appears on the right sixteen line after a through ball from Diaby, but gets stuck there on Cancelo.

The 22 main actors have just left the catacombs for the lawn.
With the record champions, who won the first leg in the Allianz Arena at the end of September thanks to goals from Sanés (3rd), Musialas (17th), Manés (39th) and Müller (84th) and his two only Bundesliga bankruptcies this season abroad, coach Julian Nagelsmann makes two changes after the 5-3 home win against FC Augsburg. Goretzka and Müller push Musiala and Gnabry onto the bench.
On the Werkself side, who last beat the Reds in front of their home crowd in May 2015 and whose defensive department is the worst in the top half of the table with 39 goals conceded, coach Xabi Alonso has three in comparison to the 2-0 away win in the EL round of 16 second leg at Ferencvárosi TC personnel changes made. Instead of Tah, Bakker and Azmoun (all on the bench), Kossounou, Demirbay and Adli start.
FC Bayern Munich was also able to win all of their last four competitive games and, in addition to the impressive progress in the Champions League at the top of the Bundesliga table, left pursuer Borussia Dortmund behind before the Black and Yellows lost yesterday’s rout against Cologne from these have been overtaken. A draw today would be enough to return to first place, but of course the Reds are aiming for their 16th league win this season.
Bayer Leverkusen has had a flawless March so far. While the team from Farbenstadt made it through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a 2-0 win against the Hungarian representative Ferencvárosi TC, they saved the Bundesliga by scoring triumphs against Hertha BSC (4:1) and at SV Werder Bremen (3:2) their outsider chance in the fight for renewed entry into international business.
