LIVE. Shooting in Copenhagen shopping center: multiple victims, one arrest | Abroad

Several people have been killed in a shooting at a shopping center in the Danish capital Copenhagen. This is reported by the police, who have arrested one person.

The shooting took place in a shopping center on Amager Island, located between Copenhagen’s city center and the airport. Many visitors ran out in panic after hearing shots, video footage shows. The police are on the scene en masse. “People have been shot at and several people have been hit,” said a police spokesman.

Police reported on Twitter that one person has been arrested in connection with the shooting. It is not clear whether it is the shooter. “We are currently unable to provide more information about that person’s identity,” it said. Police have launched a call for witnesses. “If you have seen, heard or filmed anything, please contact us.”

Local media published images of heavily armed police officers on the scene and people running away from the mall.

The Danish newspaper ‘Ekstra Bladet’ spoke to a witness. He suspected that the shooting took place near a restaurant.

The newspaper ‘Berlingske’ also spoke to witnesses on the spot. The first shot was said to have been fired at 5:32 p.m. Then everyone started running away. Then the second shot came and everyone started screaming. “A lot of people hid in a staff room at a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant,” said one employee. According to the woman, the police arrived 20 to 40 minutes later.

Harry Styles

The shopping center is just a few hundred meters from the Royal Arena, where British singer-songwriter Harry Styles was due to give a performance tonight. He is best known as a member of the British/Irish band One Direction and as a solo singer. Reuters news agency tried to ask concert promoter Live Nation for a response, but was unable to reach anyone for the time being.
