U2’s Bono and The Edge on the Kiev Metro

U2 have supported Ukrainian band Antitila at a concert in south London. Bono and The Edge took the stage at Electric Brixton to perform with the band Mothers Of The Disappeared. The song was dedicated to the “Mothers of Ukraine”. “These musicians – Taras, Dmytros, Sherhi, Dmytros, Mykhailo… People in Ukraine don’t want war. They want peace, but not without freedom,” Bono addressed his words to the audience. “Mothers of the Disappeared” was released on the 1987 U2 album “The Joshua Tree” and was aimed at mothers in El Salvador and Chile whose children were kidnapped by the henchmen of the military dictatorships.

Already last year Antytila played a short concert together with Bono and Edge in an air raid shelter in the metro in Kiev. Three of the band members joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Spring 2022. “I would never challenge someone willing to lose everything. I would never mess with the Ukrainians,” said the U2 singer on Sunday (February 26).

Antytila became known worldwide by re-recording his song “2step” together with Ed Sheeran. In Poland they have already performed together with the new version.
